Getting Started on Your Thesis As every student is aware, the thesis or dissertation process is a long and difficult journey filled with stress, confusion, and anxiety. We are here to help students manage during this stressful time in their academic career. Our free online course provides Masters and PhD students with much needed guidance regarding everything from: brainstorming a thesis topic, through writing a thesis/dissertation proposal, following a thesis outline, time management, and a successful final defense. The free-thesis-dissertation-course not only lets students know what to expect, but lays out a detailed timeline that students can follow to minimize their stress, maximize their productivity, and make the overall process much more enjoyable! The first thing a Masters or PhD student needs to do, is familiarize themselves with the overall process, expectations, and requirements of a thesis or dissertation. This assures there will be no nasty surprises like, "I need a literature review? What's that?" Once a student is familiar with the process, they can begin the first (and often most daunting) step of their thesis/dissertation: choosing a dissertation or thesis topic. Wait... I have to choose something that I can find solid sources, statistics, and scholarly resources on, but that no one has covered before? Something unique but not crazy? Something I will be able to spend an entire year, two, three, or even four years of my life studying?!?!The answer is yes... but don't panic! We can break the task of finding thesis or dissertation topics down for you and make it more manageable. First things first, you need to brainstorm dissertation topics. Our online course will discuss the things you should keep in mind when brainstorming for a thesis topic. You then have to narrow it down to one or two topics that most interest you; don't just pick at random! Make sure you do your research. Following this, you need to come up with a thesis outline that includes all the thesis ideas you came up with in your brainstorming. Once you have come up with a thesis topic, a thesis outline, and put all your thesis ideas on paper, it's time to move on to the thesis or dissertation proposal. |
